Adelaide Thunderbirds star duo Matilda Garrett and Georgie Horjus are back in the Australian Diamonds squad for 2025/26.
Established defender Garrett returns to the squad for the third-consecutive year, while South Australian attacker Horjus has earned her second-consecutive selection.
Fellow South Australian Lucy Austin has also been selected as an invitee for the second time.
Garrett has shined on court for the Thunderbirds in 2025, strengthening her connection with fellow defender Latanya Wilson in the absence of Shamera Sterling-Humphrey.
After traditionally playing most of her minutes in goal defence, her versatility has been on display as she moved between goal defence and goal keeper with ease.
In her side’s Round 14 do-or-die clash with the Lightning, she took out Player of the Match and fan-voted MVP for her star performance in goal keeper.
Facing fellow Diamonds Cara Koenen and Steph Fretwell, Garrett stepped up to secure 6 gains, 7 deflections, 4 intercepts and 77 Nissan Net Points.
Horjus has once again been the key playmaker for the Thunderbirds attack end in 2025, moving between wing attack and goal attack seamlessly.
The 23-year-old has led her side for feeds with 433 and goal assists with 214 while also slotting 41 goals and 17 super shots during her time in goal attack.
In her side’s Round 12 victory over the Melbourne Vixens, she was named Player of the Match with 24 feeds, 7 goals at 100% accuracy and 67.5 Nissan Net Points.
A fan favourite amongst the Pink Army, Horjus also picked up fan-voted MVP nods in Rounds 6 and 9.
South Australian netball fans will keep their fingers crossed for Horjus’ selection in the Diamonds match scheduled to be played at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre this October.
The squad will come together for a five-day high-performance camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra in early September. A second preparation camp will follow from 19 September, leading into the Diamonds’ South Africa Series and Constellation Cup in October.
Every match of both series will be broadcast live and ad-break free during play on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.
