Tayla Williams may be a familiar face for Thunderbirds fans already as a 2020/21 training partner, but now that she’s a contracted athlete it’s time to get to know her better.
In case you missed it, we previously shared 10 facts about new recruit Tippah Dwan.
Now it’s Tayla’s turn:
- Tayla grew up on farm 20 minutes outside of Balaklava - 92 kilometres north of Adelaide in the Mid North region
- She has only ever played for two clubs before joining the Adelaide Thunderbirds: Hummocks Netball Club and Contax Netball Club
- In addition to netball, she played basketball and tennis growing up
- Tayla has two siblings - one sister and one brother
- She is currently studying a double degree in Sport and Exercise and Nutrition and Food Science
- Now a midcourter, growing up Tayla was a GA/GS (and sometimes centre) and even played goal defence when representing Adelaide Plains at the Netball SA Country Championships as a teenager
- She was a member of the U19 South Australian side who won gold at the National Netball Championships in 2019
- She also won gold with the U17s in 2016 and 2017
- When she was just 17, Tayla moved to Adelaide by herself to pursue her netball
- She officially made her Suncorp Super Netball debut as a training partner in 2020, becoming the 99th Thunderbird to pull on the pink dress
