Adelaide Thunderbirds premiership defender Matilda Garrett has added another year to her contract, committing to the club until at least the end of 2026.
She joins fellow defenders Shamera Humphrey-Sterling and Latanya Wilson as well as attacking star Georgie Horjus on long-term deals.
All four athletes are now locked in with the Thunderbirds for as long as possible, in line with the end of the current Collective Players Agreement.
In her fourth year at the club, Garrett has made claim to back-to-back premierships, playing a key role in the side’s defensive circle.
She proved why she is one of the best defenders in the league after recording 518 NNP, 44 deflections, 14 intercepts and 9 rebounds in her 2024 season.
The 25-year-old had a standout game in the side's win over the Mavericks in Round 11, walking away as the Pink Army’s fan-voted MVP.
In 2023, Garrett made her Australian Origin Diamonds debut at goal defence, becoming Diamond #191.
On the back of her 2023-24 form, she will represent the Diamonds for a second-consecutive year, having been selected in the 2024/25 squad back in June.
Additionally, Garrett captained the Australian 2023 FAST5 team to win the World Series where she was also named FAST5 Player of the Year for her stand out performances.
Thunderbirds General Manager of High Performance Jace Bode said that Garrett has been an integral part of the team’s defensive unit.
“Tilly has been crucial to the success of our defensive line-up and has played a pivotal role in our back-to-back premierships,” Bode said.
“Her relentless pressure has seen her shutdown some of the game's best attackers and her combinations with our Jamaican defenders have grown exponentially .”
“Tilly has proved to be a strong leader both on and off the court and we can’t wait to have her back for 2025 and 2026.”
