The Adelaide Thunderbirds have named their squad of 14 ahead of the Suncorp Team Girls Cup pre-season tournament in Adelaide this weekend.
All eight Suncorp Super Netball teams will descend on Netball SA Stadium from March 14-16 for a massive weekend of netball.
All 10 of the Thunderbirds’ contracted athletes will be available, along with training partners Sophie Casey, Tabitha Packer, Lucy Voyvodic, and Molly Watson. A team of 12 will be selected for each match.
Experienced shooter Romelda Aiken-George will be available but will be load managed across the weekend as the club takes a cautious approach to a minor knee injury she experienced earlier this year.
Shamera Sterling-Humphrey will also be load managed as she overcomes tendonitis.
Thunderbirds head coach Tania Obst said the tournament presented an opportunity for the side to test various combinations and expose less experienced athletes to the top level.
“We have a versatile list with several athletes who can play across a number of positions, and this is an opportunity to see our combinations in action,” Obst said.
“This tournament will also be a significant opportunity for our training partners and younger players to gain invaluable experience at the SSN level.
“We’re excited to play in front of a home crowd again and for Adelaide to host the best netball competition in the world.”
The Thunderbirds will take on the Melbourne Mavericks, the Sunshine Coast Lightning, and GIANTS Netball in the minor rounds across Friday and Saturday, before finals on Sunday.
