For the second time in the club’s history, the Adelaide Thunderbirds have crowned two Priceline Pharmacy Club Champions with Shamera Sterling and Maisie Nankivell sharing the honour for 2020.
It has been exactly ten years since Natalie von Bertouch and Carla Borrego became the first dual winners back in 2010.
Sterling backed up her stellar 2019 season with another impressive year in the pink dress, finishing second in the league for Nissan Net Points with 1147.
The Jamaican star topped the league for defensive rebounds with 37, second for deflections with 104 – just four behind Geva Mentor – and third for intercepts on 37.
She also made seven appearances in the Nissan Net Points Team of the Year.
After making her debut in 2019 as a temporary replacement player, Nankivell took every opportunity in 2020 in her first year as a permanent contracted athlete.
Playing all 14 games, the 21-year-old made her mark as a triple threat, proving her ability to swing between wing defence, centre and wing attack effectively.
She finished the season on 775.5 Nissan Net Points, with 157 assists, 16 intercepts and 29 deflections.
Nankivell made two appearances in the Nissan Net Points Team of the Year, once in wing defence and once in wing attack – again proving her versatility.
The award is voted on by the coaching staff on a 3, 2, 1 system each game.
The Priceline Pharmacy Club Champion Award wrapped up the Adelaide Thunderbirds 2020 Awards as the last of four.
Chelsea Pitman took out both the Members’ Player Award and the Players’ Player Award, while Shadine van der Merwe was the Spirit Award recipient.
