The Adelaide Thunderbirds will head to New South Wales this weekend for their first official pre-season hit-out of 2021.
On Saturday, March 6, the Thunderbirds will take on Giants Netball in front of a sold-out crowd at the PCYC in Orange.
The two sides will also meet on the Friday for a closed practice match.
Seven of the contracted 10 Thunderbirds athletes will travel to NSW, plus all five training partners:
- Matilda Garrett
- Samantha Gooden
- Georgie Horjus
- Elle McDonald
- Maisie Nankivell
- Hannah Petty
- Latanya Wilson
- Lucy Austin
- Chelsea Blackman
- Tyler Orr
- Molly Watson
- Tayla Williams
Jamaican international Shamera Sterling, who is currently in quarantine in Sydney, will just miss out on the trip but will re-join her side for training next week.
South African internationals Lenize Potgieter and Shadine van der Merwe are expected to arrive in Adelaide later this month.
Thunderbirds head coach Tania Obst said the side was excited to get on the road and compete against another Suncorp Super Netball side.
“This weekend will provide an opportunity for our athletes who have been training since mid-January to put into place the skills we have been practicing,” Obst said.
“I’m excited for our five training partners to be exposed to this travelling and playing experience.
“It will also be great for our new team members Latanya Wilson, Matilda Garrett and Elle McDonald to wear their new colours.
“This weekend will show us exactly where we are at and what our focuses will need to be moving forward.”
