The Adelaide Thunderbirds will travel to Brisbane today, August 7, unchanged from the 12-person squad who took the court in Round One.
After making their SSN debuts against the Fever last Saturday, Georgie Horjus and Tayla Williams remain in the squad alongside fellow training partners Charlee Hodges and Chelsea Blackman.
Sasha Glasgow and Layla Guscoth will miss the Round Two match against the Giants but will compete in the Netball SA Premier League on Friday night as they complete the final stages of their recovery.
“Sasha and Layla were so close to being ready, but they will both miss Round Two unfortunately,” Obst said.
“Playing in the Premier League gives them a great opportunity to not only build on their match fitness, but also build in confidence ahead of their returns to SSN.”
Reflecting on her side’s Round One loss to the Fever, Obst said there were plenty of learnings to take into their match-up with the Giants.
“We were thrilled to finally get the season started,” Obst said.
“As a team we felt our start was good and we made improvements during the five-minute super shot time during the game.
“Some of our general’ play through court was exceptional, but our focus now is to build on this consistency.”
Opening the 2020 season away from home, Obst said her side certainly felt the absence of the pink army.
“We missed our large, loud crowd acknowledging our great skills,” Obst said.
“It was very exciting to see Lenize, Sam, Tayla and Georgie play their first game for the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
“Lenize and Sam starting the game gave us two strong, tall targets up front, Tayla made an impact at WD and Georgie also made the most of her opportunity.”
The side enters the Queensland netball hub this weekend, taking on the Giants on Saturday from 12:30pm ACST.
The game will be broadcast live on Channel 9 and the Netball Live Official App.
