The 2020 Suncorp Super Netball League has been deferred due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak and will not commence prior to June 30.
All clubs were informed of the decision made by the Super Netball League Commission (SNLC) on Monday, following the Federal Government’s latest announcement.
The SNLC will review the situation before the end of May to determine whether the season start date should be extended further.
The Deakin University Australian National League has also been postponed until June 30.
Netball SA and the Adelaide Thunderbirds are working closely with Netball Australia and the SNLC to determine what the 2020 season looks like and will keep members across any decisions made.
This includes information on membership payments, membership pack distribution, merchandise availability, ticket on sale dates and fixture updates.
Netball SA CEO Bronwyn Klei said, like the rest of the world, the netball community was certainly feeling the impact of COVID-19.
“As devastated as we are to see the SSN and ANL postponed, we must do everything we can to limit the spread of the coronavirus,” Klei said.
“The health and wellbeing of our players, staff and every single member of our netball family is paramount in such unprecedented times.
“We will work closely with Netball Australia and the SNLC on the potential start date of the SSN and will ensure we keep our members and key stakeholders up to date with the latest information.”
“As tough as this is, as a community, we now have the opportunity to unite and help each other navigate our way through these unchartered waters.
“On behalf of everyone at Netball SA, I want to sincerely thank our members for their unwavering support and understanding through this time.”
