Adelaide Thunderbirds star defender Shamera Sterling has been crowned Club Champion for the second consecutive year after another stellar season in the pink.
The Jamaican international was honoured at the club’s Awards Night on Sunday, July 9 as the side also celebrated its premiership season.
Sterling finished 2023 with a huge 1472 Nissan Net Points and once again topped the league for intercepts with 46 and deflections with 118.
She was named in the Nissan Net Points Team of the Week seven times in goal keeper.
In her side’s premiership victory, she recorded 7 crucial gains, 3 intercepts and 3 rebounds.
At the Awards Night, the team also crowned their Player’s Player, Latanya Wilson.
The dynamic defender found another level in 2023, solidifying her place amongst the best defenders in the league.
Playing across wing defence, goal defence and occasionally goal keeper, Wilson finished the season with 784 Nissan Net Points, 30 intercepts and 70 deflections.
Key recruit Eleanor Cardwell was named the recipient of the Spirit Award in a demonstration of the impact she has had both on and off the court in 2023.
The England International was voted in by her peers as the player who best represents their values.
Following the club’s first finals campaign in 10 years, a new award was introduced for 2023 as young SA talent Georgie Horjus was named Player of the Finals.
In the Grand Final, she recorded 88.5 Nissan Net Points to go with 24 goal assists, 33 feeds, 21 centre pass receives, and 1 intercept.
