Adelaide Thunderbirds star defender Shamera Sterling has taken home the club’s most coveted award for the second time in her four years in pink.
After being named joint Subway Club Champion with Maisie Nankivell in 2020, Sterling has been crowned once again after another stellar year in 2022.
The Jamaican international finished the season on an outstanding 1177.5 Nissan Net Points - ranked third in the league - from 14 games played.
She topped the league for intercepts with 52 – 16 more than the second-highest ranked player – as well as 67 deflections and 37 rebounds.
Sterling received the award at the club’s Awards Presentation evening on Tuesday, June 21.
On the night, Sterling and captain Hannah Petty were also recognised by their peers, taking out the Players’ Player and Spirit Award respectively.
For the third time across her seven seasons, Petty has received the Spirit Award for best representing the club’s values.
The Spirit Award recipient is someone who has made considerable impact on the culture of the Adelaide Thunderbirds team and has continued commitment both on and off the court.
They represent the club with integrity and enthusiasm and displays humility, honesty, teamwork and respect for the game.
In addition to her influence on team culture, Petty produced a stand-out performance in 2022, excelling in a positional shift to wing defence.
She finished the year with 16 intercepts and 29 deflections from 13 games played.
Sterling and Petty will don the pink dress once again in 2023 after signing two-year deals with the club at the end of 2021.
