South Australian rising star Georgie Horjus has received her highest accolade yet, taking out the Adelaide Thunderbirds’ 2021 Club Champion Award at just 19 years of age.
One week on from signing a two-year deal with the club, Horjus has taken home the most coveted award at Netball SA’s inaugural Awards Gala.
The versatile attacker burst onto the Super Netball scene in 2020, making a name for herself in the Thunderbirds’ goal circle as a training partner with the club.
In 2021, on her first official SSN contract, Horjus delivered another stellar season in the pink dress and secured her place as a fan favourite.
Her dynamic movement and smart play was on show as she led the side for centre pass receives in 252, recorded 118 goal assists and shot 183 of her own.
Horjus was named in goal attack in the Nissan Net Points Team of the Round on three occasions, in Rounds 5, 6 and 13, and went on to be named overall Player of the Round in Rounds 6 and 13.
In the side’s nine-goal victory over the Melbourne Vixens in Round 13, she received her first ever Player of the Match accolade after recording 70 Nissan net points, 14 goals at 93% and 14 goal assists.
Last month, the teenager was named in the 2021/22 Australian Development Squad – the pathway to the Origin Diamonds squad.
In addition to Club Champion, recipients for the Adelaide Thunderbirds’ Members’ Player Award, Players’ Player Award and Spirit Award were also revealed at the Awards Gala.
Fan favourite Maisie Nankivell was voted the Members’ Player Award, Shadine van der Merwe was named Players’ Player Award and 2021 captain Hannah Petty won the Spirit Award.
