Midcourt triple threat Maisie Nankivell has re-signed with the Adelaide Thunderbirds ahead of the 2022 season
The South Australian backed up her breakout season in 2020 with another strong year in 2021, in her first season in the Thunderbirds’ leadership group.
After spending her first two seasons predominantly in wing defence and centre, Nankivell proved her versatility once again when she returned to her more natural attacking position of wing attack this season.
She was strong in attack and defence, leading the Thunderbirds for goal assists with 255 and ranking third for deflections with 23.
Nankivell was selected in the Nissan Net Points (NNP) Team of the Round in the wing attack position on two occasions: in rounds 3 and 9.
In Round 9, she was named Player of the Match after recording 31 goal assists, 13 centre pass receives and two intercepts in Adelaide’s 8-goal win over the Collingwood Magpies.
Nankivell capped off the season with a selection in the 2021/22 Australian Development Squad.
Thunderbirds High Performance Manager Pitre Bourdon said Nankivell’s versatility and determination made her an undeniable asset in the side.
“Maisie’s preparation and professional approach has allowed her to develop her game even further this season” Bourdon said.
“She shined in her leadership role this season and is a well-respected member of this side.
“Her ability to play across all three midcourt positions gives us great flexibility and we’re very pleased to have her back in 2022.”
