Adelaide Thunderbirds midcourter Laura Scherian has called time on her decorated netball career after adding one final accolade to a long list of achievements.
After starting her career at national level in 2007, Scherian made her final appearance in the 2024 Grand Final, becoming a three-time premiership player as she said farewell to the Super Netball court.
A two-time premiership player with the Sunshine Coast Lightning and Australian Diamond #178, she became Thunderbird #110 in Round 1 of the 2024 season.
She played in all 14 minor rounds and in both of the club’s two finals matches across WA and C and etched her name in the club’s history as a premiership player on August 3.
Thunderbirds General Manager of High Performance Jace Bode thanked Scherian for her incredible contribution to the club and the sport more broadly.
“Anyone who knows Shez, knows how incredible of a person and player she is, and she’s certainly left her mark on this club in 2024,” Bode said.
“Her many successes on court over the years are matched only by the impact she has off court as an amazing teammate, role model, and person.
“We’re proud to have welcomed her into the Thunderbirds family and we wish her all the very best for the next chapter.”
Thunderbirds Head Coach Tania Obst said Scherian has been a special part of another historic year for the club.
“We entered our recruitment period last year with a strong purpose around what we wanted to bring into this side and Shez was undoubtedly a perfect fit,” Obst said.
“We knew the experience she would bring and the calibre of person she is when we signed her, and she’s lived up to that and more this season.
“We’re lucky to have had her as a part of this team and this club and I’m so glad we were able to secure the premiership in her final game.”
Scherian said she was grateful for the connections she had made throughout her career.
“I am so grateful for the amazing opportunities and wonderful experiences netball has presented me throughout my career. Most importantly, I’m grateful for the incredible people who have entered my life through this sport,” Scherian said.
“A massive thank you to the Thunderbirds for the opportunity to be a part of this club for 2024. My time here has been truly special and unforgettable, for reasons that extend far beyond being part of a premiership team.
“I leave the game happy and content, still enjoying it and loving it. I am looking forward to my next adventure."
