Adelaide Thunderbirds goal attack Sam Gooden has given the new super shot rule her tick of approval, making the most of the two-point shot in her first appearance in the pink dress.
The 23-year-old delivered 9/10 super shots in the second half of the Thunderbirds match-up against the West Coast Fever on Saturday, proving her ability to sink the long bomb.
Speaking to media on Tuesday, Gooden said she was certainly a fan of the new rule.
“When it was first announced I understood everyone’s views, but my normal range has always been a bit further out in that goal attack position,” Gooden said.
“I love netball as a game, but I thought in this league it could definitely spice things up and make it more exciting.
“I’m just glad they went in, we were down so I knew we needed to get some two pointers(?) up.”
Trailing the Fever at half-time, Gooden said there was definitely a shift in tactics inside the goal circle as soon as the super shot came into play.
“Definitely in the last five minutes, it changed our tactics,” Gooden said.
“You would have seen Leni get the ball in a position where she’d normally turn and shoot, but she popped it back out to me.
“When you’re down, you know you need the two points and when they’re coming from the other side you have to match that.”
Despite feeling disappointed with the loss, Gooden said there were plenty of learnings for her side as they prepare to take on the Giants this weekend.
“We know we’re better than that,” Gooden said.
“We know it was our execution that let us down so we know we can fix that up and hopefully get the win on the weekend.”
The Thunderbirds will take on the Giants on Saturday at 12:30pm ACST.
