The Adelaide Thunderbirds have elevated young South Australian Lauren Frew to a contracted player for 2024.
An accurate GA/GS who can shoot from anywhere in the goal circle, Frew has earned her right to wear the pink dress next season.
Frew has made her way through the Netball SA Pathway, namely starring for Matrics Netball Club in The Hospital Research Foundation Group Premier League.
She is a South Australian Sports Institute athlete and has represented South Australia in Netball SA’s State Teams.
In 2020, she was named MVP of the Premier League Reserves division before she took out Rookie of the Year in the League division in 2021.
She became a League Premiership Player for the first time in 2022 in the same year she won gold with the SA Southern Force (now Adelaide Thunderbirds Futures) side and was named in the Australian 21U squad.
In 2023, Frew became a Thunderbirds training partner and played a key role in the Adelaide Thunderbirds Futures team where she won bronze at the Australian National Championships.
Thunderbirds High Performance Manager Pitre Bourdon said Frew would play a key role in the club’s front court and will be a great addition to the team.
“Lauren has shown exceptional skill as a strong, confident shooter and we have full faith that she can rise to the challenge of Super Suncorp Netball,” Bourdon said.
“Her combination of skill and talent saw her shine on court with Matrics and the Futures this year.
“It’s great to see another South Australian progress through Netball SA’s pathways and earn her spot at the highest level.
“We can't wait to see her develop her game further on netball's biggest stage,” Bourdon said.
