South Australian young star Lauren Frew has been recognised for her remarkable debut Suncorp Super Netball season with the 2024 Rookie of the Year Award.
The 22-year-old made her debut as Thunderbird #109 in Round 1 against the Firebirds and went on to play every game for the remainder of the season.
Rising up through the Netball SA Pathway, Frew proved she belonged at the elite level, becoming a premiership player in just her first season in SSN.
The sharp-shooting goal attack played a pivotal role in the Thunderbirds’ road to premiership glory, delivering consistent performances each week and developing an unstoppable combination with Romelda Aiken-George.
In her first finals appearance, she was named Player of the Match in the Semi-Final against the Vixens where she recorded 59 Nissan Net Points, 17 goals, 9 goal assists and 13 feeds.
Frew finished her SSN campaign with an impressive stat sheet, recording 574 Nissan Net Points, 144 goals, 111 goal assists and 166 centre pass receives.
On the game’s biggest stage, Frew shot perfectly with 100 per cent accuracy in the Grand Final against the Vixens and finished third in the side’s overall NNP with 73.5.
To cap off her first year as a contracted player, Frew helped Australia win its third-consecutive FAST5 World Series title at this year’s competition in Christchurch, New Zealand, defeating the FAST5 Ferns in the Grand Final.
Frew’s consistency and ability to convert in the side’s attack end has earnt her an extended contract, seeing her don the pink dress again in 2025.
