The Adelaide Thunderbirds will now take on the Southern Dragons open men’s team on Fan Night this Thursday after the NSW Swifts advised they will not be able to travel to South Australia for the match.
The Swifts advised the late change was due to COVID-19 exposures amongst their high performance team.
Adelaide Thunderbirds High Performance Manager Pitre Bourdon said although it was disappointing to no longer host the Swifts, he had no doubt the match against the Dragons would be a competitive and entertaining match-up.
“We’ve come up against the Dragons many times this pre-season and it’s always a great battle,” Bourdon said.
“They are a combination of the best men’s players in the state and their physicality and athleticism will be a good challenge for our Thunderbirds and a spectacle for our fans to watch.
“It’s disappointing to not host the Swifts, but we all understand the challenges COVID-19 presents and know we must remain agile to protect our athletes and staff as we approach the SSN season.”
In addition, Thunderbirds Head Coach Tania Obst and Assistant Coach Cathy Fellows will not be in attendance after falling under government restrictions for COVID-19.
Head Coach of Netball at the South Australian Sports Institute Jenny Borlase OAM will coach the side in their place.
Logistics and timings for the event will remain the same, with a 6:30pm centre pass.
The match will be live streamed via the club’s Facebook page, thanks to Bar TV.
