The Adelaide Thunderbirds will once again celebrate its Trade Up Round this weekend in honour of its extension with major partner the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).
Following a successful launch in 2024, the round will once again spotlight CITB’s Trade Up campaign, which aims to empower young people to consider a career in construction.
The campaign focuses on the benefits of exploring an apprenticeship such as learning and earning on the job and avoiding student loans.

Trade Up Round also coincides perfectly with the Adelaide University Country Championships, the largest event on Netball SA’s calendar as the state’s best country netballers descend on Netball SA Stadium for a weekend of competition.
Thunderbirds captain Hannah Petty said the side was excited to share the Trade Up campaign message with the Pink Army this Sunday.
“I know a lot of tradies who absolutely love their job. The Trade Up campaign promotes the many benefits of exploring an apprenticeship, like learning and earning on the job and avoiding student loans,” Petty said.
“This is a huge weekend for Netball SA and the Thunderbirds family and we’re proud to once again partner with CITB into the future.”
Netball SA CEO Bronwyn Klei said the partnership would continue to support netball all across South Australia.
“We’re pleased to announce the continuation of the CITB partnership with Netball SA and we look forward to continuing to support netball across SA from community and grassroots, right up to our elite team in the Adelaide Thunderbirds,” Ms Klei said.
“This weekend you can expect to see plenty of high-vis vests and pink hard-hats, as we promote the Trade Up campaign to all of the SA netball community to encourage them to consider a career in construction.”
“This is the biggest weekend on our calendar. We will have thousands of the best South Australian netballers here in Mile End for the Adelaide University Country Champs, as well as playing to a sold-out crowd at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre with the Adelaide Thunderbirds.”
CITB CEO Holly Willcox said this weekend was a significant opportunity for CITB to further engage with the netball community on the benefits of exploring a career in construction.
“We are super excited for this weekend. It’s a massive opportunity for CITB and the building and construction industry to engage further with the netball community to promote career pathway options,” Ms Willcox said.
“It’s important for women to recognise career-path opportunities in the building and construction industry. The opportunities are so diverse and when you build a career in trade, you have got a career for life.
“Sport and the construction industry share a strong focus on working in teams and the skills developed in both netball and the building and construction industry are transferable and paramount for a successful career.
“This will be the first time we take the Trade up campaign to the regional community of South Australia at the Adelaide University Country Championships which is significant for CITB to specifically promote potential career opportunities.”
The Adelaide Thunderbirds’ Trade Up Round will take place on Sunday, June 8 from 3:30pm ACST at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre as the side hosts the Giants.
