Lange returns to the Adelaide Thunderbirds after two seasons at Collingwood Magpies Netball. The 23-year-old moved to the Melbourne-based club for the inaugural Suncorp Super Netball season following five years with the Thunderbirds.
Lange is coming off a strong season with the Tasmanian Magpies – Collingwood’s Australian Netball League (ANL) side – captaining the team to the premiership.
“2018 was a really good year for my netball. After rehabbing from a knee injury, I continued to build on my performances across the year,” Lange said.
“I’m so pumped to return to the Adelaide Thunderbirds and to represent my state again. I’ve been involved in high performance programs for a few years and know I have a lot more in the tank to give.
“I play a physical game in goal attack and want to be a strong, reliable shooter and target for my team at the attacking end.”
Midcourter Altmann, 25, described her Southern Force 2018 season as her best yet, with her performances rewarded being named MVP for the second consecutive season.
At age 23 Altmann made a pact with herself that she would give herself two seasons to make it to the top level.
“I have given netball my absolute all for the past two seasons. I trained really, really hard on the court and did a lot of work behind the scenes. Each week I wanted to put my best out on the court and I am so excited it has paid off.”
Altmann who was the Force’s vice-captain in 2018 describes her playing style as quick and crafty and said she’s a hard-worker. “I don’t ever stop, that’s something I am well known for,” she said.
In their rises through the Netball SA pathways, Lange and Altmann have both worked with Head Coach Tania Obst, with Obst their coach in the SASI netball program and Southern Force.
“At just 23 years of age, Cody brings a wealth of experience having been involved at this level for the past five years. After sustaining a knee injury in 2017, she has comeback physically and mentally stronger in 2018 to captain the victorious Tasmanian Magpies.
“Cody’s court craft in both GA and GS along with her sharp ball skills and ability to shoot from anywhere in the goal circle were showcased during the 2017 SSN season and I’m looking forward to seeing her further develop in 2019 and beyond.”
Obst said Altmann is a classic example of an athlete making their way through the Netball SA pathway.
“Kelly has represented South Australia at every level and continued to work on her physical development and netball game outside of underage programs.
“Her 2018 ANL season was exceptional and has been rewarded with her first SSN contract. She adds speed and agility along with exquisite feeding skills to an already solid midcourt.”
Altmann and Lange join Shamera Sterling, Hannah Petty, Sasha Glasgow, Kate Shimmin and Chelsea Pitman as the players announced for the Adelaide Thunderbirds 2019 roster. Further signing announcements will be made shortly.
