The duo join their 2018 teammates Chelsea Pitman and Kate Shimmin, and Jamaican international defender Shamera Sterling, as the players announced to date for the 2019 playing roster.
This will mark Petty’s fourth season with Adelaide and Glasgow’s third. Both players are products of the Netball SA pathways and echoed that they feel extremely privileged to represent their state in the Thunderbirds dress.
Petty said “It means everything to me to stay at the Adelaide Thunderbirds. As a young girl my dream was to play for the Thunderbirds and to be living that dream is awesome. I can’t imagine playing for any other club.”
Glasgow said “When I was growing up I watched the likes of Erin Bell, Nat von Bertouch and Carla Borrego and I aspired to be them. To be in the small minority who gets to play for the Adelaide Thunderbirds is a huge honour for me and I take so much pride in wearing the pink dress.”
Petty, who grew up on the Eyre Peninsula, said she wants to build on her 2018 performances.
“I’m looking forward to playing more consistent game time in 2019 and putting out a full 60-minute performance,” she said.
“You can always become a better athlete and over the pre-season I’ll be putting the hard yards in at the gym and learning more about the game so I’m ready to attack the season.”
Petty said she’s excited to play with Shimmin, Pitman and Glasgow again.
“It’s important to have that core group that can go from season to season. It’s good to know I already have a connection with those players.”
After a break-out 2017 season, 2018 was injury interrupted for Glasgow who said having a strong pre-season is a main goal.
“I’m looking forward to completing a full pre-season and putting myself in good stead for the season. I loved getting out in goal attack this past season for the Southern Force and Adelaide Thunderbirds and want to build up my fitness to run out a full game in the position,” she said.
“After my injuries in 2018 knowing my own state backs me and my ability to play netball is really reassuring. It’s a great feeling for myself and my family that I’m back with the Thunderbirds and to know we’re supported by the club is awesome.”
Both Petty and Glasgow have been coached by incoming Adelaide Thunderbirds Head Coach Tania Obst during their time in the SASI Netball Program and in the 2017 21U Australian team.
“Tania has so much experience after being involved in the SA pathways for many years, in international netball and at the GIANTS, so I’m going to be a massive sponge around her and take in everything she teaches me,” Glasgow, who grew up on the Yorke Peninsula, said.
Adelaide Thunderbirds General Manager Melody Cooper said the club is thrilled to see Petty and Glasgow return for the 2019 season.
“Hannah and Sasha are talented South Australians who we are delighted to have signed to represent the Adelaide Thunderbirds and play a key part in the future success of the club,” she said.
“We are excited to see their growth and development on and off court under Tania’s tutelage.”
The Adelaide Thunderbirds will announce the remaining five players for next season’s roster in the coming weeks, with Netball Australia recruitment guidelines stating that the 2019 list is to be finalised by late September.
“The 2019 team will have a South Australian feel complemented by key international calibre players,” Cooper said.
