The Arkaba Hotel has secured a partnership with South Australia’s much-loved elite netball team, the Adelaide Thunderbirds, and will be streaming every game of their Suncorp Super Netball season in Sportys Bar.
The Adelaide Thunderbirds are South Australia’s professional netball team. Founded in 1997, they have won five premierships, including in the 2023 season, and have developed a loyal fanbase becoming one of the state’s most iconic sporting teams.
The Arkaba has supported the Thunderbirds in various capacities in the past, including hosting watch parties during the 2023 Super Netball season, while also undergoing a major $12 million renovation of the Sportys Bar.
The Arkaba will be rallying the people of Adelaide to show their support of the Thunderbirds by making Sportys Bar the official home of all Thunderbirds away games, while also streaming all of their home games for those who cannot make it to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
Ex-Arkaba employee, Lauren Frew, is joining the official line-up of contracted Thunderbirds players for the 2024 season, having previously been a training partner, so the Arkaba is particularly invested in this year’s team.
Arkaba Hotel Manager, Jordarn Karpowicz, said they are so excited to officially partner with the Thunderbirds, and hopes to establish a buzzing atmosphere for both old and new fans to come together and show their support of the iconic team.
“The atmosphere of Sportys is like no other pub or bar in Adelaide, particularly following our major renovation.”

Netball SA and Adelaide Thunderbirds CEO Bronwyn Klei said the club was excited to welcome the Arkaba Hotel to the Thunderbirds family.
“We’re proud to be partnering with an iconic Adelaide brand like the Arkaba Hotel,” Ms Klei said.
“Knowing young local Lauren Frew, who made her Thunderbirds debut in Round One, is also a former Arkaba employee makes the partnership even more special.
“It’s exciting to know the Sportys Bar will host Watch Partys for all of our away games in 2024 and we look forward to seeing the Pink Army make the venue their home when our Thunderbirds travel.”
