The Adelaide Thunderbirds have announced that athlete Beth Cobden ruptured her ACL on Saturday against the Melbourne Vixens.
Cobden was playing WD in Round 3 of the Suncorp Super Netball competition when she injured her knee upon landing.
Scans have confirmed that Cobden has ruptured her left anterior cruciate ligament and will require surgery to repair the damage.
Cobden will miss the remainder of the 2019 season. The Adelaide Thunderbirds are currently working to secure a replacement athlete and will make an announcement in the coming days.
Melody Cooper, General Manager – Adelaide Thunderbirds and Elite Pathways, said that the entire Adelaide Thunderbirds team are feeling for Cobden.
“We are saddened by the news regarding Beth’s season-ending injury and our priority right now is supporting Beth and ensuring she is okay,” she said.
“Beth possesses amazing strength and will overcome this challenge.
“We love the contagious attitude Beth brings to the club and our focus is now on providing her the best recovery and rehabilitation.”
Tania Obst, Head Coach, Adelaide Thunderbirds, said that Beth will be missed in the Adelaide Thunderbirds dress this season.
“We are all devastated that Beth will be unable to compete on the court for the remainder of the season,” she said.
Chelsea Pitman
Adelaide Thunderbirds co-captain Chelsea Pitman has undergone scans on her right calf after leaving the court in the second quarter against Melbourne Vixens on Saturday.
Chelsea will resume normal training tomorrow.
