Regarded as one of the best match day experiences in the league, the Adelaide Thunderbirds will offer enhanced off-court action for fans in the Fan Village and amplified in-venue entertainment ahead of the primetime matches on Saturday 6 June, Saturday 11 July, and Friday 7 August.
Featuring more international athletes than ever before, Suncorp Super Netball is sure to again showcase the sport’s best talent in 2020. The Adelaide Thunderbirds are pleased to offer the most tickets to its home matches in history, allowing more fans to access the world’s strongest domestic competition right here on their doorstep.
Netball SA CEO, Bronwyn Klei, says she is thrilled about the opportunity to grow the game for fans.
“It’s a great win for our team to be taking not only one, but three, matches to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in 2020,” said Bronwyn.
“An enhanced offering and more comfortable experience is in store for our fans attending games at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, as well as additional seats compared to Priceline Stadium, meaning more fans can access the best netball competition in the world in front of their very own eyes.”
Adelaide Entertainment Centre General Manager, Phil King, says the venue are looking forward to hosting the club and helping enhance the fan experience.
“The Adelaide Entertainment Centre is delighted to be hosting the three blockbuster Adelaide Thunderbirds matches in 2020.”
“We’ve purchased a giant LED cube with scoreboard and video playback capability that is suspended over a brand-new court.”
“It features the highest resolution screen for netball in Australia and will add an exciting new dimension to the Adelaide Thunderbirds match day experience.”
The 2020 season kicks off against GIANTS Netball on Sunday 3 May in front of a home crowd at Priceline Stadium, the home of netball in South Australia.
Bronwyn says the 2020 season will be sure to offer passionate Adelaide fans an entertaining and diverse experience.
“It’s fabulous news for our fans that the Adelaide Thunderbirds will start and end their minor round campaign with home games in front of a passionate home crowd.”
“It’s going to be another great season with the Adelaide Thunderbirds continuing their period of re-emergence and building on the solid foundations laid this year.”
“Our club is thrilled that our 2020 fixture includes three key blockbuster games at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and a diverse timeslot offering including fan-favourite timeslots on Friday and Saturday nights, along with tried-and-tested Sunday afternoon matches.”
Suncorp Super Netball CEO, Chris Symington, says the stage is set for another thrilling SSN season for all.
“Not many could have predicted the storylines that came from the incredible 2019 Suncorp Super Netball season and we have no doubt that 2020 will feature much of the same, edge-of-your-seat action.”
“Suncorp Super Netball reached more people than ever before in 2019 and we look forward to bringing another stellar season of the world’s premier netball competition to netball fans right across Australia and the world.”
Another highlight of the 2020 Adelaide Thunderbirds fixture is that the home match at Adelaide Entertainment Centre over the June long weekend coincides with Netball South Australia’s annual Priceline Pharmacy Country Championships (PPCC). The PPCC sees thousands of country netballers converge on Priceline Stadium to play against competitors from all corners of the state and the Round 6 match offers them the perfect opportunity to watch some of the world’s best athletes play once their competition wraps up for the day.
Bronwyn says the club is looking forward to showcasing the elite competition to our regional visitors.
“We are so thrilled for our South Australian netballing community that we are hosting a home match over the June long weekend, when our country netballers are in town for the annual Priceline Pharmacy Country Championships (PPCC).”
“We know that access to the world’s premier domestic netball competition, in the Suncorp Super Netball, is difficult for our country players and fans so it is with great excitement we share that our PPCC participants will be able to head to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre after play finishes on the Saturday and watch the Adelaide Thunderbirds take on Sunshine Coast Lightning.”
Despite the Adelaide Thunderbirds working with Netball NT and NT Major Events Company to secure another match in Darwin after the success of this year’s historic match in the Top End, the NT Government failed to allocate funding to bring SSN to the Territory for a second year.
Bronwyn says whilst it is disappointing that the Adelaide Thunderbirds will not be furthering this partnership next year, it means an extra home game in Adelaide, delivering seven opportunities for loyal South Australian fans to cheer the team on in 2020.
“We are disappointed that our plans to visit the Northern Territory and take Suncorp Super Netball to Darwin for the second consecutive year have not come to fruition, but we look forward to continuing the relationship with Netball NT and remain hopeful of working towards another Top End match in the future”
“The positive side to this outcome is that our fans in South Australia will have access to all seven allocated home games, giving our passionate Adelaide Thunderbirds members and supporters maximum opportunity to see the world’s best netball action live and in person.”
All eight Suncorp Super Netball clubs will continue to play each other once at home, and once away.
Looking to build on their three wins and seventh-place finish in 2019, the Adelaide Thunderbirds will be out to claim bonus points and win matches from the very first whistle.
