Lucy Austin

A South Australian talent and training partner with the Adelaide Thunderbirds for the past two seasons, Austin has been elevated to the club’s contracted list for 2023.

The 190cm GS/GA came through the Netball SA pathway, representing her state and starring in The Hospital Research Foundation Group Premier League for Matrics Netball Club.

2022 was a remarkable year for Austin’s netball journey.

It started in Round 6 of SSN as she made her league and club debut, becoming Thunderbird #105 and picking up a fan-voted MVP.

At the close of the season, she was offered her first SSN contract in the same month she won a premiership with Matrics Netball Club. 

In August, Austin captained SA’s Southern Force side which went on to become the Australian Netball Champions.

In November, she represented her country for the first time alongside teammate and life-long friend Georgie Horjus in the Fast5 Netball World Series.

The emerging talent will provide the Thunderbirds with another strong target in their goal circle in 2023, coming in with established connections within the team.

Off court, she studies a Bachelor of Human Movement/Masters of Teaching.
