Five tips to stay healthy in winter

Adelaide Thunderbirds Vice Captain and Priceline Pharmacy Ambassador, Chelsea Pitman, shares her five tips for staying healthy in winter.

1. Physical activity

Sometimes we fall into a lull in the colder months and lose our mojo to stay active. Make sure you’re getting a minimum of 30 minutes a day of physical activity. This can be something as simple as walking around the shopping mall if you don’t want to go outside.

2. Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is so important. Our body is constantly working, especially our brain. Sleep allows our body to recover and ‘recharge’. I aim to get eight hours of sleep per night.

3. Nutrition

My tip for nutrition is to try new recipes – so you don’t get bored! When creating a meal, adding fruit and vegetables in a variety of colours such as red, purple, dark green, yellow and orange, not only looks good but helps provide your body with a range of nutrients it needs.

4. Mindfulness

This is something I have recently started and has allowed me to train myself to actively switch off and focus when I need.

5. Flu shot

For me I can’t run the risk of getting the flu because the netball season runs throughout winter. We also travel a lot, so we are exposed to germs. Getting the flu shot takes five minutes, and it saves me from being bed ridden for a week! You can easily book in to have your flu shot online today.
