Adelaide Thunderbirds take on Collingwood Magpies

The Adelaide Thunderbirds are embarking on their first away game of 2018 Suncorp Super Netball season, taking on Collingwood Magpies on Saturday 12 May at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena.

The clash is set to be a hot contest with both teams on the hunt for their first win of the season, following a 0-2 start. It also marks the first time the T-Birds will play against former club captain Erin Bell, who joined the Magpies this season after seven years in Adelaide.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds will go into the game with an unchanged playing 10.

“This week we have been keeping our focus firmly on building our game, particularly the parts that we know we have complete control over,” Ryan said.

“There are areas working well for us and that’s been really promising, and other areas that need tidying up.”

In preparation for Round 3, Ryan identified his team’s need to improve their first quarter performances, after trailing at quarter time by eight goals against West Coast Fever and the GIANTS, and their ability to capitalise on turnovers.

“We have been creating enough opportunities, but we haven’t been able to capitalise off them and really make them count, so that has been a major focus for the entire team this week,” he said.

Ryan said Saturday’s game will be another test for his side.

“Collingwood has also had a tough start to the season and I know they won’t be happy with two early losses.

“They have some great players so it’s going to be a big test, but we’re looking forward to getting back out on court and making some positive gains.”

After playing the two opening rounds at Priceline Stadium, Ryan said the team is looking forward to their first away trip.

“It’s always good to get on the road and spend some quality time together.”
