A former Olympian has joined the executive team of the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
Melody Cooper, who represented New Zealand in hockey at the London Olympics, has stepped into the role of General Manager – Adelaide Thunderbirds and Elite Pathways.
A key aspect of Melody’s role will be working with the Adelaide Thunderbirds and Netball SA’s elite netball pathway to ensure we have sustained success. Part of this will be further developing support structures and resourcing to achieve great outcomes on and off the court.
She will also work to strengthen the connection between South Australia’s elite teams – the Adelaide Thunderbirds, Southern Force and the state teams, and the communication to the netball community around high performance and player management.
Melody is excited about the new role and is looking forward to contributing to an organisation that works hard for its athletes and members to bring the community together.
“This role excites me as I have the opportunity to help our elite players unlock their potential and help them perform at their best, both on and off the court, by using my life skills and experiences so far.”
In addition to playing hockey for New Zealand, Melody captained the SA Suns – South Australia’s women’s hockey team – to a championship in 2011. She also coached at a state level with the SA Hotshots men’s team.
Sport has always been a huge part of Melody’s life, and she said she’s really looking forward to working with like-minded athletes, coaches and officials that have the same mindset of striving for excellence.
Melody has a thorough knowledge of high performance sport from her time as an elite player and coach, and brings strong business and commercial acumen to the role from her professional career.
